TRÆNA. One of the most spectacular music festivals in the Barents Region is going on right now on an island out in the Atlantic Ocean. The Træna festival, this year celebrating its 10th anniversary 5-7 of July, takes place on the Husøya island some 50 kilometres off the Norwegian coast, west of Mo i Rana town, Nordland county.
The archipelago is impressing – islands with steep mountains pointing straight up to heaven, midnight sun and the Svartisen glacier on the mainland to the east. The landscape is of course what lifts the festival, but the artist catalogue is also rich. This year the Træna festival is visited by Manu Chao, Neneh Cherry, Halvdan Sivertsen and 25 other artists and bands.
All kind of boats, ferries and yachts are mobilized to bring the guests out to the island. Costs for transports, foodstuff and drinks are high, as a result of the festival’s location. But that’s no obstacle to many visitors. Some tickets are already sold out in advance.
