ROVANIEMI. There´s a campaign going on to save old dance hall Valsa (= Valistustalo [Education House], also called Tivoli nowadays) in Rovaniemi, built in 1958. Good 50´s architecture with lot of memories. For example Finland´s greatest tango composer Unto Mononen used to spend time there writing songs, too. Those years in Rovaniemi in the early 60´s were his best. Mononen also helped young Alatornio-born Esko Rahkonen to became one of Finland´s most loved tango singers – they trained at Valsa.
